Canton High School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to join our learning community as a Mathematics teacher for the first semester of the 24-25 school year (beginning of November until the beginning of February) . The selected candidate will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families and staff.   

 

Canton High School is an inclusive community and serves over 900 students in grades 9-12.  Canton High School is committed to elevating the educational experience for our students by cultivating a school culture and climate that promotes academic growth, social-emotional learning, and high-quality teaching and learning through the purposeful design of rigorous and equitable student experiences.  

 

Our mathematics department recently underwent a major curriculum review and as a result, we now offer integrated pathways as well as traditional high school math courses in the College Preparatory, Honors, Accelerated, and Advanced Placement levels. 

 

JOB SUMMARY

Canton High School educators provide well-organized, enriching learning environments in which students can access Massachusetts standards-based curriculum and develop social and emotional skills in a safe and supportive educational environment. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  1. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional practices that facilitate active learning experiences
  2. Develop lesson plans that align with the state standards
  3. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  4. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  5. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
  6. Use relevant instructional technology to support a variety of learning styles
  7. Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development
  8. Assign and grade assignments and assessments through a variety of methods
  9. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  10. Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development
  11. Manage student behavior in the classroom and throughout the school community
  12. Participate in department and school/staff meetings and professional development sessions
  13. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs
  14. Keep up to date with advancements in subject area curriculum, teaching resources, and instructional practices and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  15. Effectively teach AP Statistics, BC Calculus and Algebra 1 courses

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification that is appropriate for the grade level and subject area assigned. (Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.)
  2. Highly Qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  3. Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, other school staff 
  4. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  5. Well-organized with strong leadership abilities
  6. Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  7. Familiarity with Google Suite and other instructional technology platforms
  8. Other reasonable responsibilities as determined by the department coordinator and/or building administrators

COMPENSATION: per Collective Bargaining Agreement
