The Canton High School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to join our staff beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.  The Performing Arts teacher will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families, and staff.

 JOB SUMMARY

The Performing Arts teacher will provide a well-organized, academically challenging, culturally and linguistically responsive class environment in which students can access curriculum and make progress towards Massachusetts standards and develop social and emotional skills in order to participate in society, while providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming educational environment for all students.

 

Courses to be taught include: Theater Production and Design, Piano, Acting, Dance, Public Speaking.

 

The ideal candidate would direct the fall play, winter musical, and spring cabaret for additional stipends.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences that meet the needs of all learners
  2. Develop lesson plans that align with the state standards and district-determined high-quality instructional curricula and are culturally and linguistically responsive
  3. Continuously engage in reflective practice regarding curricula, instruction, and culturally responsive practice
  4. Identify, select, and implement differentiated instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs based on data
  5. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment aligned to the District-approved curriculum and/or Massachusetts State Standards
  6. Use relevant technology to support instruction
  7. Follow and implement individual student safety plans, IEPs, 504s, health care plans, behavior support plans, etc.
  8. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students using data
  9. Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress, development, and attendance as appropriate
  10. Manage student behavior in the classroom and school by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the student handbook
  11. Participate in department and school meetings, parent/guardian meetings, and professional development sessions
  12. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents/guardians regarding student progress and student needs
  13. Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources, and methods, and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  14. Collaborate with student services staff; special educators and other related service providers
  15. Performs other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement as assigned by the building principal and/or District administration

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1. Possess appropriate DESE licensure

2. Excellent interpersonal skills

3. Be collaborative and cooperative

4. Be highly flexible and adaptable

5. Possess a strong ability to problem solve and take initiative

5. Bachelor’s degree in education or a field related to the subject area

 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal
